Cage The Elephant will release its fifth studio album, titled Social Cues, on April 19th. The band also unveiled the first single from the LP on Thursday (January 31st), called “Ready To Let Go.” It’s accompanied by a video directed by lead singer Matt Shultz. The band described Social Cues as being largely inspired by the “unraveling” of a relationship Shultz had. The singer said, “It can be a vehicle to act out things that are hard to confront. When I’m creating, I try to put myself in a reactive state of improvisational thought. I let images just arise in my mind and wait for it to evoke an emotional response and then when it does, I know I’m on to something.” The disc also features a collaboration with Beck called “Night Running.” Cage The Elephant’s last studio LP, 2015’s Tell Me I’m Pretty, won Best Rock Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards, while the band has also notched seven Number One singles at Modern Rock radio since emerging in 2008. Cage The Elephant will co-headline Atlanta’s Shaky Knees festival in early May, with more tour dates to be announced soon.
