The first trailer for Rob Zombie‘s new horror thriller, 31, has been released. Written and directed by Zombie, the film follows five carnival workers who are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned, Hell-like compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game and survive 12 hours against a gang of sadistic clowns. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and will be made available on September 16th.
Zombie told us that he came up with the idea for 31 after another movie he was working on failed to take off: [“This movie grew out of my frustration of spending two years working on this movie about the Philadelphia Flyers that never went, and at that point I was like, ‘I’ve got to think of a simple premise that I know I can get made, and I can make it for a reasonable budget.’ And I came up with the idea for 31, which was just, you know, five people being kidnapped on Halloween and taken to this remote location where they have to play, like, this game where they become the prey and they’re hunted. Whoever I told, they were like, ‘Okay, we’re in, we’ll do it.'”] SOUNDCUE (:25 OC: . . . we’ll do it.’)
- 31 stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Malcolm McDowell, Jeff Daniel Phillips and Meg Foster.
- Zombie had to submit multiple cuts of the film to the MPAA ratings board to get an R rating, after the group slapped the film with an NC-17 twice. Zombie has said that an unrated cut of the film will be issued on DVD.
- Zombie’s other films include The Devil’s Rejects, The Lords Of Salem, Halloween and House Of 1000 Corpses.
- Zombie’s new album, The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser, arrived in late April. He’ll begin a co-headlining tour with Korn on July 19th in Englewood, Colorado.

Patrick wrote: “All of Rob Zombie’s films looks the same. This literally looks like House of 1000 Corpses, but with more clowns.”
Mike wrote: “I love horror more than anything else. Devil’s Rejects and Halloween are probably my favorite horror films ever, but this looks bad. What a confusing trailer.”
the usual suspect wrote: “Been waiting for this trailer for what seems like forever and it didn’t disappoint. Love the visuals and it seems like one messed up ride, cannot wait but I wish Rob would stop casting Sheri Moon.”
Chicago Guy wrote: “Rob’s style of film is NOT for everyone. But this looks interesting and quite gory and entertaining. But I hate how people insult films and call them all sorts of names without constructive reasoning. If you dont like it fine, but lets not pretend we are all able to go through the stress of putting together a film. It’s not an easy task.”
