Foo Fighters have released their fifth surprise numbered EP of the year. The latest, titled 02050525, features covers of The Passions and Jawbreaker as well as deep cuts, B-sides and demos pulled from the band’s sessions from 2005’s In Your Honor double LP.
The covers are the Passions’ 1981 one-hit wonder, “I’m In Love With A German Film Star,” as well as a take on Jawbreaker’s 1992 track “Kiss The Bottle,” featuring guitarist Chris Shiflett on lead vocals.
The collection also features the deep cut “FFL (Fat F**king Lie),” the rare studio version of “Skin And Bones” and a demo of the single “DOA.” All three of those tracks were originally released on the 2005 EP Five Songs And A Cover — a B-side collection from the In Your Honor sessions that was exclusively sold in Best Buy stores.
The effort is rounded out by “Spill,” originally released as the B-side to the classic Foo Fighters hit “Best Of You.”
The new EP follows up last month’s 01020225, which featured a mix of studio and live cuts. That was preceded by 01070725, a mixture of live cuts, demos and familiar Foos numbers that arrived in late September, a live effort earlier that month called 00050525 Live in Roswell, and another live EP last July titled 00950025.
The string of EPs may be related to a yet-to-be-revealed celebration of the Foos’ upcoming 25th anniversary. In the meantime, the band is planning to release a new album next year. Its last full-length record, Concrete And Gold, was released in 2017.
