Hellyeah has reportedly tapped Stone Sour’s Roy Mayorga as the band’s new drummer in the wake of Vinnie Paul Abbott’s death last year. Word of Mayorga’s involvement with Hellyeah gained strength after he posted two Instagram photos of his new drum setup, which was deemed by some fans to be “very Vinnie Paul-like.” Mayorga previously played with Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders in Medication, the short-lived early 2000s outfit which also featured Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader and Ugly Kid Joe singer Whitfield Crane. Stone Sour is likely to be inactive for much of the next two years as frontman Corey Taylor focuses on the next album and tour cycle from Slipknot, which would leave Mayorga room to take the gig with Hellyeah. Hellyeah recently revealed that its sixth album will be out later this year. The LP will mark the group’s final effort with Abbott, who passed away in June 2018 from heart disease. Last month, Hellyeah released the official music video for a new song titled “333.”
