Ghost are playing games with their fans again, as The PRP reports that recent shows by the Swedish occult rockers have featured appearances by a sixth Nameless Ghoul. The masked musician has been coming onstage to play some cowbell, in some instances to the chagrin of lead vocalist Papa Emeritus III. Video footage of the new Ghoul has turned up online, along with Papa’s reaction to him.
The five instrumental members of Ghost all wear masks and matching black outfits onstage and are only known as Nameless Ghouls, although they each represent one element: fire, water, air, earth and aether or quintessence. Papa Emeritus symbolizes an “anti-Pope” in the band’s Satanic imagery.
- Since the Ghouls keep their identities hidden, it’s difficult to determine whether there have been personnel changes in Ghost. The band most recently added a female bass player, believed to be Megan Thomas from the New York-based all-female Led Zeppelin tribute band Lez Zeppelin.
- Rock celebrities like Dave Grohl have also reportedly performed as Ghouls with the band.
- Ghost is touring behind its recently released EP, Popestar, which features the new single “Square Hammer” in addition to four cover songs. The band plays in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday (November 2nd).
