A new Metallica song called “Atlas, Rise!” began streaming on Monday (October 31st) at 3:00 p.m. PT. The track is the third to be released from the band’s forthcoming album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, following previously released tracks “Hardwired” and “Moth Into Flame.” Fans who picked up special Metallica Halloween masks in record stores over the weekend were given an access code that allowed them to hear “Atlas, Rise!” 30 minutes before it premiered.
- “Atlas, Rise!” is six and a half minutes long. Hardwired…To Self-Destruct consists of two discs, containing a dozen songs and nearly 80 minutes of music.
- The new album arrives on November 18th, more than eight years after 2008’s Death Magnetic.
- During a Q&A session in Mexico City, frontman James Hetfield spoke about the long wait for the new album, saying, “It took a long time. People got mad. And I realized when we were playing the album for some of the journalists that it’s such a great feeling to give birth to new music and how it makes other people feel made me feel good. So I don’t know why we waited so long. Make sure we don’t wait so long again, okay?”
- Metallica is currently on a South American tour that brings the band to Bogota, Colombia on Tuesday night (November 1st). The band will hit North American stages early next year.
