Foo Fighters have canceled all the remaining dates on the band’s European tour due to Dave Grohl breaking his leg last Friday night (June 12th) in a fall from the stage in Gothenburg, Sweden. On doctors’ orders, the band has scrapped its June 19th and 20th gigs at London’s Wembley Stadium, a June 23rd show in Edinburgh, Scotland, a June 25th date in Belgium and a June 26th headlining slot at England’s Glastonbury Festival. Previously announced cancellations included a June 14th show in the Netherlands and a June 16th stop in Switzerland.
After undergoing surgery Monday (June 15th), Grohl’s full recuperation time is still to be determined. The next big question is whether the band cancels or postpones the start of its massive North American trek, scheduled to begin on July 4th at Washington D.C.’s RFK Stadium.
- Grohl posted a lengthy personal message at the band’s official website in which he described the accident in detail as well as his return to the stage in a chair to complete the show.
- Grohl said that his operation went well and he now has six metal screws in his leg, adding, "My doctors have advised me to lay low for a while. The most important thing now is for me to recover from the surgery, to keep my leg elevated so as to keep swelling down and prevent any infection/complication that could do long term damage. I’m not out of the woods yet, folks."
- He continued that it’s "just not physically possible"for him to play shows at the moment and that the band is "doing our best right now to work out a plan, so bear with us."
- Grohl concluded, "You have always stood by our band, and we will always stand by you. Like I say at every show, we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you guys. And I mean that. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
