A rare early recording featuring Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has been found by the website MetalSucks and posted online. The song, called “Shadowed,” is from the Iowa band Smakdab and was recorded in 1998 but essentially buried by Slipknot’s label, Roadrunner Records. The track featured production work from ex-Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison and was recorded just as Slipknot was about to sign with Roadrunner. Smakdab keyboardist Gabe Wilkinson recalled, “We got a nice letter from Roadrunner Records at the time making it very clear to not put Corey or Joey’s name anywhere on our release.” Taylor himself found out about the track’s re-emergence via Twitter, stating that he hadn’t heard it since he was in the studio recording it. Although it was included on Smakdab’s self-titled debut LP, it has not really been heard outside of the local Iowa metal scene for 20 years.
