Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has been keeping up his chops between shows by going out in the cities the band performs in and finding street musicians to jam with. According to Loudwire, two new clips have surfaced in which Smith is seen drumming with performers on the streets of London this past Monday (June 27th). T
In one clip he joins a flamenco guitar player for a percussive jam, while in the second he uses a single snare drum to play alongside a performer who’s visually defying gravity. In a photo that Smith posted himself, he’s seen playing on a street surrounded by pigeons, although the location is not made clear.
- Despite his success, Smith remains one of the most down-to-earth musicians around. He told us a while back that he never imagined where music would take him: [“Never in my wildest dreams if you had come up to me and said, ‘Hey, you know, you’re gonna move to California and join the Chili Peppers and then 25 years later you’re gonna be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and you’re gonna sell millions of records and travel all over the world and blah blah blah blah blah…’ I’d have just said, ‘You are hiiiiiigh.’ I can’t really comprehend it too much.”] SOUNDCUE (:21 OC: . . . it too much.)
- The Chili Peppers are currently in the midst of European festival season, but will play several Canadian festivals next month before headlining Chicago’sLollapalooza on July 30th.
- The band’s 11th studio album, The Getaway, debuted at Number Two on the Billboard 200 album chart earlier this week, selling 118,000 equivalent album units in the week ending June 23rd.
