Former Creed vocalist Scott Stapp will head out on a solo acoustic tour this summer to mark the 20th anniversary of the release of Creed’s debut album, My Own Prison. The trek begins on May 11th in Mobile, Alabama and has dates booked through June 11th in Pasadena, California, with more possibly to come. Stapp told People about the shows, “I wanted to do something special to commemorate my 20th anniversary in the industry and of the My Own Prison album. But I’m different than I was back then, and I want to share that process. I’ve really learned and grown a lot, and I think an acoustic tour is a good way to show that. It will be very intimate. I’m really excited to share this part of me with people.”

Stapp’s struggles with drugs and mental health are well documented, with the singer going through a drug-fueled mental breakdown in late 2014. The following May he revealed that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder after checking into an intensive program for abusing alcohol and prescription drugs. In January 2016 he returned to the road for his first tour since his public breakdown in fall 2014.

  • Stapp added, “After that shattering, a new person has emerged. It’s still a work in progress. I haven’t arrived by any means, but there’s a clarity in my mind. I’m able to experience love and joy and happiness with my wife and children. All the things I love about life have slowly come back into my reality.”
  • Last year Stapp also joined Art Of Anarchy, a band that also features members of Disturbed and Guns N’ Roses and at one point featured the late Scott Weiland on the mic. The band’s second album and first with Stapp, The Madness, comes out this Friday (March 24th).
