Skillet has released the official music video for the song “Back From The Dead,” from the band’s latest album Unleashed. The clip tells the story of the band escaping from a testing facility and being chased by hordes of zombies, and even gives a nod toward Skillet’s 2009 video for the massive hit single “Monster,” which has been viewed more than 183 million times on YouTube.
Skillet frontman John Cooper told us he wrote “Back From The Dead” in response to people saying that rock music was a dying genre: [“The idea for ‘Back From The Dead’ was just simply this, that a few years ago, when our last record came out, we were still selling really good — in fact, our last record Rise just went gold last year — but it had this air about it that people were going, ‘Oh, it’s never gonna sell, it’s not big, rock music is over’…it made me mad enough that I wrote a song about it called ‘Back From The Dead.'”]
- Cooper told radio station Q103 about the video, “It was the biggest video (we’ve done); we had about 50 cast members for the video, so it was quite fun. It’s got a really dirty feel to it. It’s very post-apocalyptic, Mad Max-ish, Blade Runner — that kind of vibe.”
- Skillet is currently on a headlining tour behind Unleashed, which also features the hit “Feel Invincible.” The band stops in El Paso, Texas on Thursday (March 16th) and will wrap up on March 24th in Little Rock, Arkansas.
- Following that, Skillet will also be making the rounds through U.S. festivals this spring, including Carolina Rebellion on May 7th and Rock On The Range on May 20th, before going out as one the support acts on the Korn/Stone Sour summer tour.
