Guns N’ Roses is making room for another live Chinese Democracy cut, playing “Catcher in the Rye” during a performance Wednesday night at Gillette stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. It was the first time during the band’s Not in This Lifetime … tour that the tune got played.
The tour has mostly seen fan favorites from earlier albums like Appetite for Destruction (1987) and Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 (1991). The band played three other tracks from Chinese Democracy Wednesday, including “Chinese Democracy,” “Better” and “This I Love.”
- When “Chinese Democracy” landed in 2008, frontman Axl Rose was the only original member still playing with the band. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and eventually earned platinum status from the RIAA.
- Meanwhile, this weekend Guns N’ Roses is bringing their reunion tour to New Jersey at the Metlife Stadium, but NYC will get a little love too. The John Varvatos Store at 315 Bowery (former home of the legendary CBGBs) will launch a Guns N’ Roses pop-up store. A later version of the band, including Rose, performed at the store in 2010, but there’s no indication they’ll appear this time.
- The original band, with Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, guitarist Izzy Stradlin‘ and drummer Steven Adler played CBGB in 1987.
